At around 11:50 AM on February 8, a sudden landslide struck Group 2 of Jinping Village, Mu'ai Town, Junlian County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province. The disaster buried several houses and left people trapped.

As of 11:00 AM on February 9, initial assessments confirmed that the landslide had buried 10 residential homes and one production facility. One person was confirmed dead, 28 were reported missing, and two were injured (one with minor injuries and one with serious but non-life-threatening injuries).

Preliminary analysis suggests that the disaster was caused by prolonged rainfall combined with geological factors, leading to a high-altitude landslide transforming into a debris flow. The resulting debris field extended about 1.2 kilometres, with a thickness of 10 to 20 metres and a width of approximately 100 metres, amounting to over 100,000 cubic metres of material.

Following the incident, President Xi Jinping issued important instructions, calling for all-out efforts to search for the missing, prevent secondary disasters, and ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

Rescue operations are still underway.
