Malaysia's manufacturing sector sales rose 4.6 percent year-on-year to 1.9 trillion ringgit (430 billion U.S. dollars) in 2024, official data showed Friday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that the manufacturing sales in December 2024 grew 5.7 percent year-on-year to 158.4 billion ringgit.
The growth of sales value in the manufacturing sector during the month was primarily supported by the food, beverages and tobacco sub-sector which remained to record double-digit growth at 14.6 percent.
Meanwhile, the electrical and electronics products and non-metallic mineral products, basic metal and fabricated metal products sub-sectors also made contributions to the manufacturing sector's sales growth, registering increases of 8.7 percent and 3.2 percent, respectively.
Compared with the preceding month, the sales value shrank by 2.2 percent against 162 billion ringgit recorded in November 2024.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, the sales value in the manufacturing sector grew by 4.4 percent year-on-year, achieving 481.8 billion ringgit. (1 ringgit equals 0.23 U.S. dollars)
