Iran: Iranian president criticizes US "maximum pressure" campaign
Tehran, Iran - February 10, 2025 Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday criticized U.S. "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran during a speech marking the 46th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution's victory. During his speech to demonstrators at the Azadi or Liberty Square in the capital Tehran, the Iranian president dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump's claim that he seeks talks with Iran, and also rejected U.S. claims that Iran is destabilizing the region. "Trump said he wanted to negotiate with Iran, then signed off and announced all possible conspiracies to bring Iran to its knees. Trump said the United States is open to talks, but claimed Iran undermined regional security. In contrast, Israel, with the United States backing, has bombed people in many countries, including Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iran and more," said Pezeshkian. Amid high tensions with Israel and the U.S. over the conflict in Gaza, many Iranians participated in nationwide demonstrations to commemorate the 46th anniversary of the victory of Iran's Islamic Revolution on Monday. Trump recently signed a memorandum to restore a so-called "maximum pressure" campaign on Iran aimed to stymie the Islamic Republic in what he claims are its attempts to "obtain nuclear weapon." Iranians participating in the demonstration said that the U.S. sanctions are nothing new, and the history of the past 46 years has proved that Iran can eliminate the impact of sanctions and achieve national development through its own capabilities. "We have experienced 'maximum pressure' before. We felt this pressure during Trump's last term. But with the decisions of Iran's national leadership, we were able to control and eliminate the pressure. This is not new, we have experienced this before, and we will continue on our own path to eliminate the impact of sanctions," said Sarmad, a Tehran resident participating in the demonstration. "Trump seeks Iran's surrender and disarmament under the guise of negotiations with Iran. That will never happen as it is a departure from Iran's principles and positions," said Javad, another demonstrator. Shotlist: Tehran, Iran - Feb 10, 2025: 1.
