Giant Prickly stick insect hatching from egg

Buy video

After hours of footage, I was finally able to capture a Giant Prickly stick insect (Extatsoma tiaratum) hatching from its egg. The insect in comparison to the egg is incredible. I was surprised to see that their legs are quite pliable on hatching, just like the flexibility in human babies when they're born. These insects are indigenous to Australia, and are part of the Phasmid family. They are herbivores and feed mostly on Eucalyptus.
