A huge dust devil tornado tore through a pitch interrupting a football match in Myanmar.

Footage shows the 100ft tall (30m) whirlwind whipping dirt on a field during Kaw Ka Swe Football Club's local league game on February 9.

The youngsters paused the match but did not flee, remaining calm despite the vortex being only a few steps away from them.

A referee was seen gesturing to the players to move to the side so they could wait until the dust devil dissolved on its own.

Onlook Thit Sar, who captured the weather phenomenon near Kayin State, said: 'The tornado started small then grew very quickly to be that big. It lasted for about a minute then disappeared.

'The players on the pitch stayed very calm. I was surprised. I was scared it was going to hurt someone.'

Dust devil tornadoes are types of whirlwinds that form when the sun heats a patch of land and the air above becomes warmer and rises quickly.

Cooler air then moves into the low-pressure gap left by the rising warm air. The new drafts of cooler air also heat up and rise and the cycle continues, picking up dust and debris and making the spiral visible.

They are not as dangerous as supercell tornadoes, which can cause severe damage.
