Severe floods hit South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, displacing tens of thousands of residents.
Bad weather hit the South Sulawesi region. Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and lightning caused flooding in Makassar City and Maros Regency on Tuesday 11 February 2025 evening.
Floods inundated a number of areas in Makassar City, especially in Manggala District and Biringkanaya District. The water level in residential areas varies, up to an adult's thighs.
Meanwhile, flooding also occurred in Maros Regency, which borders Makassar City.
"Floods hit the city of Makassar and Maros regency tonight," said Amson Padolo, as Head of the South Sulawesi Regional Disaster Management Agency.
Floods were reported to have submerged 14 districts in Maros regency, with heights reaching adult chests up to more than 1 meter.
Chaidir Syam, as the Regent of Maros, confirmed the flood conditions that hit his area.
"There are 14 districts affected by the flood. The water level reached more than 1 meter, the flow of transportation on the Trans Sulawesi road was completely paralyzed," said Chaidir Syam.
Due to flooding in Maros regency, the main Trans South Sulawesi route was completely paralyzed. Vehicles cannot pass on the road connecting Makassar City and the northern region of South Sulawesi.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of residents were displaced due to the natural disaster of large floods.
