Mysterious disappearing sauce in Chinese hot pot restaurant
On January 21, 2025, in Beijing, located in northern China, a video captured a puzzling yet fascinating moment at a hot pot restaurant.
A man at the condiment station attempted to scoop seafood sauce with a ladle, but no matter how many times he lifted it, the liquid mysteriously drained away before reaching his bowl.
Despite the container being full of sauce, the liquid seemed to vanish the moment the ladle was raised. Chinese viewers later identified this as an example of the no-pipe siphon effect, a normal yet rarely noticed phenomenon in fluid mechanics.
