US: Man Hiding in Tree From Police After Attacking Girlfriend with Fishing Reel

Sanford, United States - February 08, 2025 A Sanford man is facing serious charges after allegedly hitting his girlfriend in the head with a fishing reel and threatening her with a gun, according to the Volusia Sheriff's Office. Henry Purdue, 40, was arrested on Saturday at a home on Collins Road in Osteen. Purdue has been charged with battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and grand theft of a firearm. Authorities said that Purdue struck his girlfriend in the head with the reel end of a fishing pole, leaving her with a head injury. The woman was treated at the scene. When deputies arrived, Purdue had fled the scene. However, a K-9 unit tracked him down, and he was found hiding in a tree. Purdue is currently held on a $40,000 bond.
