Pakistan: Maritime drills in full swing in 2nd phase of multinational military exercise AMAN 2025
Karachi, Pakistan - February 11, 2025 The multinational military exercise, code-named "AMAN 2025", has entered the second phase of maritime drills with naval resupply, joint anti-piracy operations, search and rescue, and air defense in full swing in Karachi, Pakistan. The maritime drills, scheduled for Monday to Tuesday, came after the first phase during which participants conducted consultations, roundtable discussions and vessel visits to enhance mutual understanding. The second phase of the AMAN 2025 exercise also includes an international naval review. Against the backdrop of the Pakistan Navy Dockyard, where windsurfers, sailboats, and navy vessels glide across the water, the flags of participating nations flutter in the sea breeze, marking the beginning of the maritime drills. The exercise has brought together naval and air assets, special operations forces, marine teams, and high-level delegates from 60 participating countries. China has sent a naval fleet, including guided-missile destroyer Baotou and supply ship Gaoyouhu, to the exercise. This year, in recognition of the global trust in Pakistan's commitment to stability at sea, the Navy has introduced the 'AMAN Dialogue' -- a high-level forum aimed at strengthening maritime cooperation. Pakistani Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf said that the presence of China at the exercise is a sign of the strategic cooperation between the two countries. The exercise, which first began in 2007, officially commenced in the presence of senior naval representatives from across the world. As regional security concerns grow in the Indian Ocean, AMAN 2025 serves as a crucial platform for nations to enhance their ability to safeguard international waters. For now, all eyes are on Karachi as this major maritime exercise unfolds, reinforcing the spirit of "Together for Peace" -- the motto of AMAN 2025. Experts believe the exercise has grown into a key platform for fostering regional and international maritime security, while boosting trade and connectivity .
