Speedboat capsizes in Indonesia leaving three dead and four missing
A speedboat with dozens of passengers capsized leaving three people dead and four others missing in Indonesia.
The Iqza Express boat was taking guests to a wedding reception when it reportedly drove over a log at a river in North Kalimantan province, on February 10.
The terrified locals screamed as the vessel lurched and overturned, throwing them into the river. Footage shows them climbing over the boat to stay out of the water, but some were swept away by the strong currents.
Marine police later arrived at the scene to rescue the survivors. They said three people were found dead, while four others were missing.
The group were said to have been headed to a wedding reception in Tias Village in the Bulungan Regency when the accident occurred.
Provincial police chief Inspector General Hary Suwijanto said: 'We arrived at the location with several colleagues earlier. We are trying to tow the ship after evacuating the victims. We have taken the deceased to the hospital.
'The information is still not confirmed. The initial report is that there were around 30 people on one boat, but we are still updating and correcting the data so that we can confirm how many passengers were present exactly. That way we know how many people we need to look for.'
A passenger named Syafruddin claimed the speedboat had crashed into something shortly before capsizing. He said: 'I heard a sound like a speedboat crashing into a wood, suddenly the speedboat turned upside down.'
