West Midlands Police closed a major road in Birmingham on Tuesday 11th February evening after a man was killed following a serious crash involving a black BMW 3 Series car and another passenger vehicle.

Collision Investigators attended the horrifying scene where the BMW had lost control, colliding with the innocent drivers a maroon coloured Honda car.

A witness of the aftermath said at the scene: 'I didn't see the crash, but I saw a poor man, he looked like he was in his 50's, getting CPR done on him, it was awful.

'This road [Stratford Road] always has people flying down it, there's no speed cameras, it's a race track.'

Police said the BMW occupants initially fled the scene before presenting themselves at a police station later in the evening where they were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

West Mids Fire Service sent 3 crews from 2 stations to the scene to assist paramedics and police.

West Mids Ambulance Service sent one ambulance, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic and a BASICS emergency doctor attended the scene.

A West Mids Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: ‘Upon arrival, ambulance staff found the driver of the first car in a critical condition. They quickly began administering advanced trauma care to him at the scene.

‘He was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic travelling on board for continued treatment en route.’

West Midlands Police placed a quarter of a mile long cordon around the crash. A force spokesperson said: ‘Two men have been arrested after a man sadly died following a collision in Hall Green.

‘We were called shortly before 7.15pm last night to a collision involving two vehicles, a BMW and a Honda, on Stratford Road.

‘A man in his 50s, the driver of the Honda, was found seriously injured and despite best efforts of emergency services, died in hospital a short time later.

‘The occupants of the BMW fled the scene.

‘Later in the evening, two men presented at a police station in relation to the collision.

‘They have both been detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. One of the men, a 19-year-old has been taken to hospital for health checks and the second man, an 18-year-old, has been taken into custody while our enquiries continue.
