STORYLINE:

Built in 1993, the Harbin Ice Hockey Stadium is currently the largest indoor venue in the city for mass fitness and competitive sports training and competitions in winter sports.

It's also the venue for the men's ice hockey competition during the 2025 Asian Winter Games.

To ensure the safe and stable operation of the power grid throughout the games, a team from the State Grid Daqing Electric Power Supply Company has been stationed at the venue since the end of May last year.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): LI YUFENG, Person in charge of power supply for the Harbin Ice Hockey Stadium during Asian Winter Games
"After several renovations, the electrical circuits have undergone many changes. To ensure stable and reliable power supply for the Asian Winter Games, we conducted a comprehensive investigation of all the loads in our venue from June to December, including 57 distribution cabinets, 371 circuits, 1,137 sockets, and 2,950 lighting fixtures. This ensures that in the event of a fault, we can handle and resolve the fault immediately."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): LI YUFENG, Person in charge of power supply for the Harbin Ice Hockey Stadium during Asian Winter Games
"We have applied many new technologies to ensure reliable power supply at the site. For instance, we have deployed robotic dogs for inspections. In areas where human access is not possible, these robotic dogs can identify potential hazards. We have also installed far-infrared testers, which allow us to monitor the temperature and current of our equipment in real-time to detect any abnormalities. In addition, we have deployed 'robotic inspectors' that can continuously monitor the electrical load information of all circuits 24 hours a day."

The team's work is vital but often goes unnoticed. However, there are occasional surprises.

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): LI YUFENG, Person in charge of power supply for the Asian Winter Games, Harbin Ice Hockey Stadium
"One day, a member of the Hong Kong team noticed our staff. They recognized the effort, and gave us a commemorative badge as a token of gratitude. It made us feel incredibly proud. Throughout our work, everyone has maintained a high level of enthusiasm and a positive attitude, doing their best in their roles."
