This is the amusing moment elephants marked Valentine's Day at Vienna Zoo in Austria.

The sanctuary celebrated the Festival of Love by preparing heart-themed treats for the majestic creatures on February 12.

Footage shows the animals munching on celery and carrots from the vegetable-filled heart made by zoo staff.

They can be seen grabbing the edible love offering using their trunks.

As part of a special offer, visiting couples can get two tickets for the price of one and enjoy a free, one-hour guided tour at 2 pm, exploring the romantic behaviours of the animal kingdom.

The star attraction is the zoo's new bull elephant, introduced two years ago as part of the European Endangered Species Breeding Program. Since his arrival, the chemistry with the female elephants has been undeniable.

The zoo said that the dominant bull quickly integrated into the herd, and zoo officials are excited to announce the first natural birth in 21 years, expected at the end of August.
