Locals waded through chest-deep floods as they fled their homes during heavy rain in Indonesia.

Residents experienced severe rainfall and strong gusts of wind in Makassar and Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, on February 11.

Footage shows families wading through thigh-deep muddy water while rescue teams carry children.

Men can be seen pushing their half-submerged motorbikes.

Chaidir Syam, Regent of Maros, said: 'There are 14 districts affected by the flood. The water level reached more than 1 metre, and transportation on the Trans Sulawesi road was completely paralysed.'

Local media reported that roads connecting Makassar City and the northern region of South Sulawesi are currently impassable due to the flash flood.

Floods were reported to have submerged 14 districts in Maros Regency under 3ft ( 1m) of water.
