Waterbury, United States - February 05, 2025 A dramatic police chase ended in a crash last week after two suspects in a stolen car struck a police vehicle and slammed into brick columns while trying to flee. The incident unfolded around 3:32 p.m. on February 5, when officers spotted a stolen 2007 Honda Accord in a lot on Hillside Avenue. As police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, Daniel Baker, 42, rammed a cruiser and tried to escape. Video footage shows an officer smashing the passenger window as Baker accelerated, eventually becoming stuck between a parked car and a police vehicle. The chase continued briefly into a parking area beneath a building, where the stolen car crashed head-on into a brick column. A pursuing police cruiser struck the vehicle from behind. Baker was arrested at the scene with a facial injury and was later hospitalized. Janete Olivencia, 38, the passenger, was taken into custody without incident. Police discovered drug paraphernalia in the car. Baker faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, evading responsibility, vehicle theft, and drug possession. Olivencia is charged with motor vehicle theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. Authorities also confirmed Baker had an outstanding warrant in Fairfield at the time of his arrest.
