On August 7, 2024, in Henan Province, located in central China, a video captured a man squatting by the street, enjoying a grilled delicacy known as huo zhu zi, or mao ji dan—fertilized duck or chicken eggs that are partially developed.

Typically taken from an incubator around 14 days into development, these eggs contain both the forming chick and the egg yolk.

What made this version unique was its spicy seasoning. As the man cracked one open, viewers saw a combination of tender chick and rich egg, coated in a flavorful, spicy sauce.
