A Russian tourist died from an injury caused by using a slide at the back of a ferry.

Andrew Anganov, 33, slid off the Pattaya Bay Cruise vessel during a trip to Koh Sak Island in Chon Buri, Thailand, on February 11.

The heavily built holidaymaker reportedly splashed into the water but complained of severe back pain after returning to the boat deck. He then collapsed, prompting the boat captain to call for medical assistance.

Paramedics arrived and found Andrew unconscious and without a pulse.

Footage shows them pumping Andrew's chest as they tried to resuscitate him.

They rushed him to Pattaya City Hospital for further treatment, but he could not be revived.

Ni, 25, a Burmese crew member onboard, said Andrew started playing on the slide after they docked at Koh Sak Island.

He said: 'He went to the back of the boat and slid into the sea. He climbed back on, but he said his back hurt. He went into shock and fell to the floor unconscious.'

Police Lieutenant Suphaphan Mipricha of the tourist police said the Russian had arrived in Pattaya on February 9 and was on a boat tour when he collapsed.

He said: 'The Russian national was overweight and weighed no less than 100 kilogrammes (220 lbs).

'Because of his size, it is believed he slammed hard into the water, which may have injured him.

'However, Pattaya City Police investigators must conduct a post-mortem examination at the Police General Hospital's Institute of Forensic Medicine to determine the specific cause of his death.'

Pattaya, on Thailand's east coast, has become a popular tourist destination for Russian and Ukrainian visitors escaping the Russia-Ukraine war.
