Hero locals save toddler trapped in flood in Indonesia
This is the heroic moment brave locals saved a toddler trapped in floodwaters in Indonesia.
The helpless young girl was reportedly stranded while playing at the Bumi Tamalanrea Permai (BTP) housing complex in Makassar City, South Sulawesi, on February 12 afternoon.
Footage shows two courageous residents braving the deluge to rescue the distressed child, who was later evacuated to safety.
Another heartwarming clip captures the rescued girl being hugged by her relieved playmate.
Eyewitness Aisyah said: 'Luckily the residents saved the child, because the flood level continued to submerge our housing.'
Thousands of residents were recently affected by floods in several cities in the region.
Local media reported on Wednesday that at least four sub-districts in Makassar City, including Manggala, Biringkanaya, Tamalate, and Tamalanrea, had already been hit by floods.
Makassar City BPBD Chief Executive Hendra Hakamuddin said: 'Currently, there are 580 displaced families comprising 2,164 people. They are spread across 24 evacuation points.'
Indonesia and some neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia have been experiencing an extended monsoon season. There have been powerful rainstorms, leading to widespread flash floods and landslides.
