China: China's Yangtze River Delta region reports record-high foreign trade in 2024
China - February 13, 2025 China's Yangtze River Delta region reports record-high foreign trade in 2024 (Voice_over) New data from Shanghai Customs authorities shows that smartphones, tablets, integrated circuits and lithium batteries drove exports of mechanical and electrical products from the Yangtze River Delta region last year. According to the data, the export value of high-end equipment in the region reached about 36 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, contributing to roughly 56 percent of the country's total, while exports of mechanical and electrical products reached about 830 billion, accounting for almost 40 percent. (Sound_bite) Qu Huili, Head, Statistics division, Shanghai Customs: "Mechanical and electrical products are the largest category of exports from the Yangtze River Delta region, and are also the foundation to stabilize the development of foreign trade. As an important component of high-tech products and a major commodity in international trade, the steady growth of the export of mechanical and electrical products reflects the upgrading of the industrial structure and the improvement of the technical level in the region, which is conducive to enhancing the stability and resilience of the regional economy." (Voice_over) The 2024 Shanghai customs data also shows that the combined import and export of goods to and from the region last year hit an all time high of roughly 2.2 trillion U.S. dollars.
