Wild monitor lizards chilled with tourists who were relaxing among nature at a park in Thailand.

Footage shows the reptiles ambling around the lake at Lumpini Park in the capital Bangkok on January 22.

Some of the lizards peacefully crawled on the grass without the visitors panicking at their presence.

The monitor lizards and turtles swam in the water while families sat by the banks, watching the sunset drape on tall buildings in the capital city.

Tourist Meike Nabers said: 'Lumpini Park was an unforgettable place. The monitor lizards were wild but coexisted with the city people.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite, which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country, so their population thrives.
