Passengers rescued from ship capsized by wave in Indonesia
Passengers were rescued after a wave in Indonesia capsized a ship.
The motorboat Fitri 09, carrying 13 passengers, overturned in the ocean due to bad weather in Tolitoli Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, on the morning of February 13.
Captain Budi, the captain of the Anugerah Lautan ship, who was passing near the scene, reportedly spotted the sinking boat.
The crew then rescued the stricken passengers who were floating in the water.
Dramatic footage shows the travellers wearing life vests clinging to the floating remains of the watercraft in the wobbly sea.
Authorities said the passengers and crew were safely evacuated to Tolitoli Harbour.
They were identified as Masut, Kisen, Waldi, Kisman, M. Herun, Rahman, Rusdi, Ridwan, Amir, Rusma, Nadira, Apsal, and Salmi. Among them, Rusma was the only female, while Apsal was a child.
Rusmadi, Head of the Search and Rescue Operations Section of the Palu National Search and Rescue Agency, Central Sulawesi, said: 'Bad weather conditions in the waters of the Makassar Strait were the main factor in this accident.'
The Meteorology and Geophysics Agency had issued an early warning regarding the potential for high waves in the area.
Sea transportation users are advised to monitor the latest weather information and remain vigilant.
