Thousands of devotees spilt from trains as they flocked to a river for a mass bathing festival in India.

Footage shows crowds disembarking at Prayagraj Railway Station to join others already there on February 12.

The day celebrated Magha Purnima, or the last full moon of the month, while families continued to arrive, hoping to participate in Maha Kumbh Mela bathing.

Railway Police Force officers were seen assisting travellers in maintaining safety at the station.

Maha Kumbh Mela is a major Hindu pilgrimage festival where millions of devotees and tourists gather to take a holy dip in the sacred rivers, believing it cleanses sins and grants salvation.
