Fira, Greece - February 08, 2025 Anafi Island in Greece has become the third Greek island to enter a state of emergency as powerful earthquake tremors intensify in waters near the popular tourist destination of Santorini in recent days. This status will remain in effect until March 13. The day before, another nearby island, Amorgos, had also declared a state of emergency. According to Greek media reports, more than 14,000 earthquakes have occurred near Santorini Island since January 26. On February 6, the Greek government declared a state of emergency for Santorini to facilitate the rapid mobilization of resources in response to potential disasters caused by the recent frequent earthquakes.
