Layton, United States - February 14, 2025 A terrifying near-miss unfolded on February 4, 2025, when a UTA Frontrunner train collided with an SUV after a rear-end crash pushed the vehicle onto the tracks. The incident began when the white SUV stopped at a crossing as warning bells sounded and red lights flashed. The SUV was then rear-ended by a pick-up truck, pushing it onto the tracks just as the crossing arms descended. The driver of the SUV attempted to reverse but halted when their vehicle made contact with the crossing arms. In a desperate move, the driver exited the vehicle moments before the train struck. The train, traveling at 67mph in a 79mph zone, applied its emergency brake, reducing impact speed to 32mph. Miraculously, no injuries were reported. However, the collision caused significant damage to the train, with repairs estimated to cost in the six-figure range.
