United States - February 12, 2025 Aerial monitoring by the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory on February 12 revealed that while episode 9 of Kīlauea’s eruption ended that morning at 8:43 a.m. HST, lava continued to flow in parts of the caldera. The overflight at 12:30 p.m. showed a patchwork of lava flows covering Halemaʻumaʻu’s floor, with different colors and ages marking the relentless volcanic activity. Since December 23, nine lava fountaining episodes from the southwest of Kalupele have fueled flows creeping eastward. Though the latest eruption phase has paused, minor lava activity persists in the distal parts of the flow field, signaling that Kīlauea’s volcanic forces remain at work.
