Portoferraio, Italy - February 14, 2025 A fierce storm struck Isola d’Elba on Friday, February 14, causing widespread flooding and prompting a series of dramatic rescue operations in Portoferraio. Firefighters were called into action as rising waters trapped residents in their homes. Three rescue missions were carried out to evacuate those in danger, while 28 people were saved from stalled vehicles along the main road. In addition, 12 people, including nine minors, were rescued from a dance school, and a group of ten was evacuated from a pizzeria. Additional teams of divers and aquatic rescuers arrived by sea to assist in the ongoing emergency response. The storm continues to cause disruption, with authorities working to ensure the safety of all residents.
