This is the shocking moment a driver stuck on a railway crossing leapt from his car just seconds before a train crashed into the vehicle.

CCTV footage shows the man manoeuvring on the road when he accidentally accelerated through the boom gate, becoming stuck before being hit by a FrontRunner train in Layton, Utah, on February 11.

As the barrier lowered, the white car became trapped. The driver attempted to reverse, but the level crossing gate would not open.

Upon realising he could no longer manoeuvre the vehicle, he quickly stepped out.

Moments later, the passing locomotive ploughed into the car, smashing the front and sending debris flying.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
