San Juan Capistrano, United States - February 14, 2025 Firefighters pulled off a dramatic rescue early this morning, saving two people trapped in the fast-moving San Juan Creek as heavy rains swelled the waters. At 1:42 a.m., emergency crews responded to reports of an adult male and female clinging to trees and bushes, unable to escape the swift current. As rescuers closed in, one victim, swept further downstream, made a desperate leap into the arms of a helicopter rescuer just as he was about to be secured. The rescuer held on, swiftly securing the victim before the aircraft lifted them both to safety. The second victim was also rescued, and both were transported to the hospital for evaluation. The complex operation involved firefighters searching from shore, boats on standby, and swift-water teams deployed specifically for the storm.
