Hundreds of spectators lined beaches and cliffs between Holywell Bay and Mawgan Porth as A group of humpback Whales established a feeding pattern off the North Cornish coast. the very rare occurrence thrills locals and visitors alike. Laybys and verges for miles along the coastal road are filled with vehicles as the occupants make their way to the South West Coastal path for a view the sea. Experts offer a number of explanations for why these magnificent creatures are spending time off Cornwall. Perhaps the most intriguing is that this area was part of the natural whale migration path before industrial whaling disrupted routes. As these animals can live for 90 years, many alive today will have been hunted, abolition only came into force in 1988. A storm erupted on Social Media, especially on the dedicated Facebook page "Whale sightings around Newquay" after jetski surfers appeared at Watergate Bay, in fairness they may have been unaware of the situation. As ever, the challenge for the natural world is coexisting with humans. The spectacle of Broaching when the huge animals launch clear of the water is still not fully understood but provides an awesome spectacle.
