This is the horrifying moment a stray bull violently attacks a resident, hurling him 10ft into the air.

Dramatic footage shows the bovine standing on the side of the street in Madhapar, Kachchh, Gujarat, on February 16.

An elderly man was seen walking nearby when the bull, which had shown no immediate signs of aggression, suddenly charged at him. The man quickly moved away and managed to escape the attack.

However, the determined local returned with a stick to try and drive the bull away.

But instead, the animal threw him into the air, sending him flying about three metres before he crashed to the ground.

A nearby resident rushed to help but was unable to get close to the attacked victim.

The bull continued its aggressive behaviour, attempting to charge at another villager and even a dog, as the elderly man was seen lying on the ground before the video clip ended.

In India, devout locals follow Hindu customs, with cows and bulls regarded as sacred animals that cannot be eaten or slaughtered once they have stopped producing milk. The majority of states ban the sale or slaughter of cows.

Instead of dealing with the economic burden of keeping their spent cattle, many farmers let the beasts roam the streets - leading to chaos when the animals become agitated and turn their fury on humans.
