Woman devastated as online dress order turns out to be just a "piece of cloth"
A woman who ordered two dresses online was left devastated when the garments turned up and looked like "pieces of cloth". "
Theidi Kale, 21, ordered a corset-style dress and sequin gown from online retailer Mifulan in November last year.
Theidi spent roughly £105 (R2,500) on the order including shipping and custom fees.
She had planned to wear one of the dresses at Miss Royal Regents South Africa beauty contest on December 7.
But the package didn't arrive until January 23 -
93 days after placing the order.
When she opened the package, Theidi was shocked to see that the dresses looked nothing like the images advertised on the website.
Theidi, a model and part-time beautician from Johannesburg, South Africa said: "I was so disappointed."
"It didn't make sense why they would send just a piece of cloth that was low quality instead of what was shown in the pictures."
"Not only did I wait 90-plus days, I also didn't get what I ordered."
"The fabric was cheap, the glitter fell off everywhere and the quality was just terrible."
Theidi contacted Mifulan for a refund but it's not until her video went viral online - racking up over 1.5 millions views - that she received a response.
Instead of offering a full refund, Theidi said Mifulan offered her a 10% reimbursement - around £10 (R250) - and allowed her to keep the dress.
Theidi refused and insisted on returning the item but the company warned her that shipping fees could be more expensive than the refund itself.
She said: "They tried so hard to convince me that the return costs would be too high and that I'd likely lose the package on the way."
"But if big stores like Shein and Temu allow returns, why can't they?"
Despite multiple emails, Mifulan has since stopped responding and Theidi is still waiting for her refund.
She said: "I trusted them because I saw reviews on Pinterest but now I know better."
"They scammed me and I don't want others to go through the same thing."
