On 11th February, a distressing incident occurred at a shopping mall in Chengdu, Sichuan, when a young girl wandered away from her parents and ended up getting her finger trapped in an escalator.

CCTV footage shows that around 4 PM, a little girl wearing a yellow outfit strayed from her parents' sight and wandered alone in the shopping centre. Out of curiosity, she climbed onto an escalator leading to the second floor, unnoticed by anyone at the time.

About a minute later, the girl's mother realised her child was missing and frantically began searching for her, unaware that her daughter was only about ten metres away, dangerously close to an accident.

As the mother searched, the girl suddenly fell on the upper section of the escalator, trapping her finger in the gap. She began crying, catching her mother's attention, who then rushed to the scene. Fortunately, a passerby quickly noticed the situation and pressed the emergency stop button. By then, the girl's right-hand fingers were firmly stuck, with visible bleeding.

Emergency services were called, and a fire rescue team from Xihe Street, Longquanyi District, dispatched a unit of six personnel to the scene. They found the young girl’s finger trapped at the last step of the escalator, making rescue difficult as she kept moving her hand due to distress.

After calming the child, the rescuers used specialised tools to dismantle parts of the escalator. Within three minutes, they successfully freed her, and she was immediately transferred to an ambulance and taken to hospital for treatment.

The young girl is currently recovering.
