Heroic villager rescues family of 5 after car plunges into river following collision in China
On 11th February, a dramatic accident occurred at a village crossroads in Taizhou, Jiangsu, when two cars collided. One of the vehicles, carrying a family of five, including a 14-month-old baby, plunged into a river, creating an urgent and dangerous situation.
CCTV footage from the village captured the moment at 8:36 AM when a white car travelling east-west collided with a black car moving north-south. The impact sent the white car straight into the river, causing a massive splash.
Local resident Liu Shibing, who lives nearby, rushed to the scene upon hearing the crash. After ensuring that the black car’s driver was unharmed, he quickly retrieved a wooden boat used for clearing water plants and, after removing his down jacket and shoes, rowed towards the submerged vehicle.
According to Liu, the car doors were stuck, but fortunately, one of the windows was open by about a foot. He instructed the trapped passengers to extend their heads through the gap, helping them out of the vehicle one by one.
Thanks to his swift actions, Liu successfully rescued all five family members and safely brought them to shore.
Recognising his bravery, the local police station has nominated Liu Shibing for a commendation for his courageous act.
