Lake-effect snow created hazardous driving conditions in West Michigan.

Residents have been experiencing severe winter weather, with continuous snow squalls in Middleville on February 17.

Footage captured by Stacey Anne Leeson shows snow-covered residential areas as she drives south on M-53 from Port Austin to Bad Axe.

Snowdrifts can be seen covering parts of the motorway, along with icy patches, making travel conditions treacherous.

The National Weather Service (NWS) expects 1 to 4 inches of new snow by midday Monday, with colder temperatures and gusty winds bringing blowing snow, poor visibility, slick roads, and wind chills below zero.

Lake-effect snow occurs when cold, dry air passes over a relatively warmer body of water, such as a large lake. As the air moves over the water, it picks up moisture and heat, causing it to rise and form clouds that produce heavy snowfall.
