This is the dramatic moment a quick-thinking officer rescued a driver stuck in a burning SUV in Maryland.

Corporal Kelly Hernandez saved the injured man from the blazing vehicle following a car crash on Queens Chapel Road in Hyattsville on January 19.

Footage shows the heroic cop pulling the victim out of the four-wheeler and dragging him on the ground as the front engine compartment of the car erupts in flames.

The driver can be heard saying: 'Careful, my leg is broken.'

Medical personnel were called to immediately transport the driver to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Hyattsville police praised the cop for his swift actions, saying: 'This is the type of incident officers face while protecting our community. We are incredibly proud of Cpl. Hernandez's quick thinking and the other first responders who assisted.'
