A buffalo that fell into an open well was rescued by the Mukkam Fire and Rescue team with the help of nearby residents.

The incident occurred in a paddy field in Thiruvambady Panchayat Ward 1, Anakkampoyil, Kerala on February 19 around 11 am.

Visuals show, the rescue officer securing the buffalo with hose ropes inside the well. Another officer descends the well and the animal is then carefully hoisted out with the combined efforts of the fire team and the locals, ensuring its safety.

Speaking to Newslions, Pious Augustin, Senior Fire and Rescue Officer at Mukkam Fire Station, explained, "It was a challenging rescue as the buffalo was heavy and agitated. We had to carefully plan the extraction to avoid causing any harm to the animal or the rescuers." He added that teamwork and the support of locals were crucial in ensuring the rescue went smoothly.

Officer V Salim and his teammate Sreejesh led the operation by going down into the well to secure the distressed buffalo. The operation was supervised by Station Officer (Grade) Joy Abraham, with support from Assistant Station Officer Grade Abdul Shukoor and Fire and Rescue Officers YP Sharafudheen, Sujith, Chacko Joseph, KP Nijas, Mithun, Sharon, and Raveendran. Their quick thinking and careful maneuvering ensured that the animal could be safely hoisted out without harm.

The buffalo, weighing around two quintals, belonged to Sree Kunjumuhammed Mullappally of Thiruvambady Panchayat. Though shaken, the animal was unharmed. Authorities have reminded landowners to seal uncovered wells to prevent similar accidents in the future.
