San Bernardino, United States - February 17, 2025 Firefighters rescued a woman trapped deep inside an underground storm drainage system in downtown San Bernardino late Tuesday morning. San Bernardino County Fire crews responded around 10:20 a.m. after witnesses near Arrowhead Avenue and Fourth Street heard the woman calling for help. Firefighters found her stuck about 15 feet inside a narrow concrete channel, unable to move. With limited space to maneuver, crews circulated fresh air into the tunnel as they coached the woman to inch herself backward nearly 20 feet. Another team opened an access point, entered the pipe, and pulled her to safety. Paramedics placed her on a stretcher for transport to a local hospital. Despite being found unclothed above the waist, she showed no obvious injuries. It remains unclear how far into the system she had traveled or how long she had been trapped. The entire rescue operation lasted about 25 minutes.
