STORYLINE:

In a recent interview, an Ivorian economist highlighted China's leading position in global electric vehicle (EV) production and its growing influence in the African market.

SOUNDBITE (French): RANDOLPH KICHIEDOU, Ivorian economist
"China currently leads the world in electric vehicle production. As Chinese automakers expand further into African and other international markets, this leading position is expected to strengthen significantly in the coming years.
The African market is attracting major Chinese players like BYD and Dongfeng, while tech giants such as Xiaomi are introducing electric vehicle models specifically designed for the region.
Although limited charging infrastructure poses a challenge to the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in Africa, Chinese companies are actively addressing this issue. Firms like TBEA and Sunwoda are collaborating with local African partners to establish charging stations and overcome this barrier.
We believe African nations, such as Cote d'Ivoire, possess significant potential for developing green transportation. This shift aligns with the global energy transition trend and can help reduce the high costs of traditional fuel vehicles for vulnerable populations.
Africa's abundant solar energy resources offer a natural advantage for electric vehicle development. As technology costs decrease and electric vehicle prices become more competitive with traditional fuel vehicles, their market share is poised to grow substantially."
