Tehran, Iran - February 19, 2025 Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani called for joint efforts in safeguarding regional security during their meeting on Wednesday. The visiting Qatari leader arrived in Tehran and met with Iranian President Pezeshkian on Wednesday. The two leaders discussed regional issues, especially the Palestinian issue. At a press conference held after the meeting, Pezeshkian said that countries in the region could jointly maintain regional security through mutual respect and cooperation. Speaking of the Palestinian issue, Pezeshkian hailed Qatar's mediation efforts in achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and securing the release of detained Palestinians. He emphasized that the Palestinians in Gaza should be able to live safely on the land that they historically lived. Tamim said that during the meeting, the two sides discussed the current difficult situation in the region and unanimously agreed that constructive dialogue should be the best way to settle the ongoing conflicts in the region. He said that the Palestinian issue was the core of the discussions, and both sides stressed that all parties must adhere to the Gaza ceasefire agreement, which is a crucial step towards achieving a permanent and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring unimpeded humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
