Brit finds ultimate way to fly - with $85k a seat ticket in CARGO
A Brit has found the ultimate way to fly - with an $85k a seat ticket in CARGO.
Alex Stead, 29, has shown off the massive benefits of being a passenger in an airplane designed for freight.
On a trip to the Antarctic, the award-winning travel photographer from Sheffield highlighted jaw-dropping perks, including a banquet lunch, roomy toilets, movie projector screen and all the legroom you could need.
Being in the belly of a huge Ilyushin Il-76 transporter also offers large viewing windows to enjoy the pristine ice floes passing below.
Alex said: "I was on an expedition trip to the South Pole and to emperor penguin colonies."
"The plane leaves from Cape Town and is about a six hour flight south. It lands at a runway called Novo where travel company Ultima Antarctic has their lodges."
"The flight is to support research bases on the continent. For example, we had about 15 Belgium scientists join us, as well as a lot of cargo."
Listing the plus points of such an unusual trip, Alex wrote on social media: "More spacious, Netflix, more high tech, free snacks, better toilets, decent free lunch, more legroom, better views, land closer to the city you need to get too."
His trip meant taking two airplanes to reach his destination at the southernmost point on Earth.
Alex said: "The flight to the South Pole is much longer and requires a different plane."
The expedition lasted seven days and nights and allowed Alex to capture amazing pictures of Emperor Penguin colonies.
