Rescue team rappel into 30ft deep well to save stranded cobra
A rescue team saved a cobra from a 30ft deep well.
Homeowner Pipat Thanaruang, 53, discovered the hapless Equatorial Spitting Cobra when he was fetching water from the well in Sa Kaeo, Thailand, on February 20.
He then reportedly contacted an animal rescue team after an attempt to retrieve the highly venomous animal, but it spread its hood, threatening to attack him.
The officials were not able to clamber down the pit and they asked for assistance from Rope Aranyaprathet, an expert in rappelling.
Footage shows one of the rescuers in full gear, lowering into the pit with a thick rope attached to his waist.
He carefully descended into the cemented hole and gently grabbed the poisonous serpent out of the water, preventing it from dying.
After the laborious rescue efforts, he successfully retrieved the serpent unscathed.
They then checked for any injuries and released the cobra back into the wild.
He said: 'I was terrified of being bitten because it was a venomous animal, so I had to reach out to these animal rescuers. I am glad that they were able to take it out; otherwise, my kids or even my wife could have become its victim.'
The Equatorial Spitting Cobra is found in Thailand, inhabiting mainly tropical forests and sometimes venturing into urban areas. It is known for its ability to spit venom when threatened and is considered very dangerous due to its potent venom and fast agility.
