Mexico City, Mexico - February 18, 2025 In a bid to attract foreign capital, Shanghai kicked off a major investment promotion drive in Mexico City on Tuesday, marking the launch of a global roadshow seeking to attract Mexican private investors. At the event, Shanghai government officials pitched the city's investment opportunities to Latin American business leaders, highlighting its potential for international investment. The event drew attendees from various segments of Mexico's private sector, which has received billions of dollars in Chinese foreign direct investment in recent years. As Chinese investment into Mexico has surged in recent years, the greater trade flow across the Pacific has also encouraged flow in the opposite direction, as Mexican investors seek a business foothold in China. And Shanghai, as an Asian financial hub, is positioning itself as a solid place to start. Against the backdrop of uncertainty surrounding North American trade, attendees emphasized the need for Mexico to diversify its trade relationships and reduce its reliance on traditional partners. Zhu Jian, business director at the Chinese Embassy in Mexico, vowed that the embassy would work to strengthen economic ties between the two countries. Shotlist: Mexico City, Mexico - Feb 18, 2025: 1.
