Elephant negotiates skippy slope with a smooth slide
An elephant smoothly slid down a skippy slope at an animal camp in Thailand.
Footage shows the jumbo Pang Nam Ping slipping downhill with eroded soil and rocks in Chiang Mai province on October 20.
Pang Nam Ping's weight caused the low hill to crumble and landed on the ground effortlessly.
The jumbo's mahout said Pang Nam Ping used to be a logging elephant before retiring into the camp.
She said: 'Pang Nam Ping has experience with forests. It is highly skilled at climbing and manoeuvring rough terrain.'
Thailand has a large population of captive elephants, mainly used in tourism and religious or cultural events.
Before logging was banned in 1989, elephants were widely used in the timber industry. Many of these elephants were left without work and transitioned into tourism or conservation programs.
