This was the hair-raising moment pilots made a last second decision when attempting to land at Birmingham Airport.

The airBaltic aircraft, flying from Zurich was lightly buffeted by winds as it came into land at Birmingham’s International Airport on Friday 21 February when at the last moment it was hit by strong crosswinds.

The pilots had already touched-down however the plane suddenly bounced back into the air and there was a small moment of shock and decision making before the pilots regained control, powering forward and back into the air for a second approach.

The Airbus A220-300 from the Latvian airline then circled the city of Birmingham, England before making a successful and smooth second landing.

Strong winds have hit the UK on Friday and are set to return again on Sunday hitting speeds of 50mph in the West Midlands.
