Massive Junkyard Fire in Camden, New Jersey, Sends Smoke Billowing Over Philadelphia
Script:
Camden, New Jersey – Firefighters are battling a massive junkyard fire that broke out around 5 p.m. at EMR Metal Recycling on South 6th Street in South Camden. The fire has escalated to four alarms, with 15-20 fire companies working tirelessly to contain the flames.
According to Camden Fire Chief Jesse Flax, burning vehicles, scrap metal, and debris are fueling the intense blaze. Firefighters are facing challenges due to limited access to hydrants, requiring them to transport water from other parts of the city. The Camden Fire Department is coordinating with the Office of Emergency Management to bring the situation under control.
Camden County officials have confirmed that no injuries have been reported so far.
Shelter for Affected Residents
South Camden residents in need of shelter can check into the Hilton Garden Inn at 1 Penn Street by showing identification. Additional community centers may be opened if necessary.
Air Quality Concerns
Smoke from the fire is visible in South Philadelphia and other parts of Camden and Burlington County. Air quality tests are being conducted, and residents are advised to stay indoors, close windows, and wear masks if they must go outside.
Authorities stress that there is no immediate health concern, but those feeling unwell are encouraged to seek medical attention.
