girl, 3, dies in tram crash in Manchester city centre
Police are hunting for the driver of a van that crashed with a tram killing a three-year-old girl in Manchester city centre.
Greater Manchester Police are appealing for witnesses of the collision that happened on Mosley Street on Saturday after the van driver fled the scene.
The van collided with the Metrolink tram close to Manchester Art Gallery just before 10am, forcing the vehicle onto the pavement where it crashed into a pedestrian.
The pedestrian, a three-year-old girl, was rushed to hospital but later died there from her injuries.
Police said the driver of the van fled the scene and officers were “following several lines of inquiry to locate him”.
No arrests have been made and investigations are continuing around in the Mosley Street, Booth Street and Nicholas Street areas.
