STORYLINE:

From Monday to Thursday, members of the 20th Chinese medical team provided free mobile medical services to people in three localities of northern and central Senegal.

The team, which includes doctors specializing in internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, and ophthalmology, also gave lectures and donated medical supplies to hospitals in Linguere and Dahra in Senegal's northern region of Louga, as well as in Touba in the central region of Diourbel.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): YANG YIGUO, Head of the 20th batch of the Chinese medical team
"During this free clinic, we set up eight specialized clinical departments to provide free medical services to more than 400 people each day. Additionally, we organized first aid and health education lectures to bring both medical care and hope to the local community."

A total of 1,411 people have benefited from the team's services, which included emergency health education sessions.

SOUNDBITE 2 (French): AMADOU LAMINE SY, Local patient
"I attended a medical consultation with the Chinese team on cupping therapy. Cupping involves applying heat to the skin.
We Senegalese are not familiar with this type of medicine. Or at least here in Linguere, we don't know much about it. But we had the opportunity to learn about it through the Chinese team."

Chinese medical teams have been integrated into Senegal's healthcare system for nearly five decades and serve as shining examples of the enduring friendship between the two countries.

China has sent 20 medical teams, with a total of 312 members, to Senegal, providing medical services to over 3.5 million patients, earning widespread recognition and appreciation from the Senegalese people.

The first team came from east China's Fujian Province and was dispatched to Senegal in July 1975.
