Two Indian tourists attacked by locals 'for groping Thai women' in Pattaya
Two Indian tourists were attacked by locals for allegedly groping women in Thailand.
The group of six drunk thugs from the subcontinent reportedly harassed Thai women who were taking a beachside stroll in Pattaya on February 20.
The women claimed they were innocently walking back to their hotel when the Indians approached and allegedly propositioned them.
Despite the women's protests, the men reportedly fondled their breasts and bottoms, with one of them filming the alleged groping on his phone.
However, the tourists ran away when the furious women finally screamed, drawing the attention of Thai taxi drivers nearby.
CCTV footage shows how the local drivers in orange hi-vis vests swarmed two Indian backpackers they caught nearby.
A mass brawl erupted, leaving the tourists, women, and one motorcycle taxi rider injured. One of the Indian tourists was heard screaming: 'I don't even have a phone, I didn't do anything'.
A spokesman for the Pattaya City Police Station said: 'We have detained one of the Indian tourists who was intoxicated. We are also contacting the injured parties and more witnesses for further questioning before we proceed with legal action.'
Motorcycle taxi rider Mee Noksunthorn, 48, said he had joined the fray after hearing the Thai women screaming that they were being sexually abused by the Indian male tourists.
The driver, who suffered a knee injury and bruised eye in the fight, added: 'The Indians were trying to run away. At that time, one of them was headed towards me, so I tried to intercept him but I was attacked and injured.
'After that, the other taxi drivers and residents rushed to help me. There was a verbal clash and a physical fight before the Pattaya City Police arrived at the scene.'
Police said they were reviewing CCTV footage to ensure a fair investigation to all parties.
In October 2024, a furious husband allegedly attacked an Indian tourist for reportedly groping his wife at a beach in the same area.
The group of Indian holidaymakers had drunk beer before asking to take selfies with the Thai woman at Pattaya Beach on the morning of October 9.
However, one of them allegedly began feeling her body and tried to kiss her. The woman's spouse was said to have blown up at the Indian visitor, knocking him out with a punch to the face.
The disturbing incident is among the latest involving tourists in the bustling coastal city, where round-the-clock sex workers cater to holidaymakers.
Government chiefs have attempted to clean up the city but regular violence and depravity continue to blight its reputation.
