A motorcycle rider fell into a freshly dug hole left in the road by workers in India.

Footage shows a car and a scooter driver passing by safely on the street with a pit in its centre in Dabhoi, Vadodara, on February 18, around 9 pm.

Suddenly, a motorcyclist attempting to cross the area loses control while manoeuvring and falls into the uncovered hole.

Alert onlookers rushed to his aid and pulled him out safely.

Reports said the rider did not suffer serious injuries.

India has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world, with thousands of fatalities and injuries reported each year.

The poor track record is blamed on unsafe road conditions, reckless driving, inadequate enforcement of traffic laws, and a lack of awareness about road safety.
