Smoke spread across New Jersey amid a scrap yard fire.

The massive fire broke out at a junkyard on the 1400 block of South Front Street in Camden around 5 pm on Friday, February 21.

Footage shows black fumes billowing into the night sky.

Reports indicate the smoke cloud was visible for miles, including across the river in Philadelphia.

Camden Fire Chief Jesse Flax said: 'We have a large trash fire, in a sense. We have vehicles, scrap metal, debris all burning right now. It's a very large pile.'

He also noted that fire crews made progress, but it was slow due to a water shortage: 'We don't have enough hydrants because we're isolated inside of a yard. So, we've got to transport water from hydrants all over the city.'

Crews battled the fire for over 12 hours, declaring it under control by 2 am Saturday and fully extinguished by Saturday evening.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
